Jemima Kirke (Sex Education), Nico Tortorella (Younger), Ashley Zukerman (The Lost Symbol), Xavier Clyde (Hard), Max Milner (The Dirt), Alexandra Doke (Grey’s Anatomy), Omid Abtahi (The Mandalorian), Kathleen Munroe (FBI) and John Cameron Mitchell (Joe vs. Carol) round out the ensemble cast for Apple TV+’s upcoming drama series City on Fire. They join previously announced Chase Sui Wonders and Wyatt Oleff, who star in the series inspired by Garth Risk Hallberg’s novel of the same name, from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Production is underway in New York City.
In City on Fire, an NYU student is shot in Central Park on the Fourth of July, 2003. Samantha is alone; there are no witnesses and very little physical evidence. Her friends’ band is playing her favorite downtown club but she leaves to meet someone, promising to return. She never does. As the crime against Samantha is investigated, she’s revealed to be the crucial connection between a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep. EXCLUSIVE: Succession and The Lost Symbol actor Ashley Zukerman leads the sci-fi thriller feature In Vitro, which has just wrapped filming in regional New South Wales, Australia. In the lead opposite Zukerman is Talia Zucker (Lake Mungo) alongside Will Howarth (Beast).
Set on a remote cattle property in the near future, the film follows Layla (Zucker) and her husband Jack (Zukerman), who have been experimenting with biotechnology and developing new farming methods. It’s a mostly isolated existence for the couple, but when a series of unsettling occurrences take place, they soon discover a disturbing presence on the farm that threatens to upend their lives. Peacock is breaking the Da Vinci code: The streamer has cancelled the prequel Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol after just one season, our sister site Deadline reports.
“We were so proud to bring this action-packed mystery thriller to our members and enjoyed watching this compelling series unfold with a satisfying, complete story,” Peacock said in a statement. “We’re grateful to Dan Dworkin, Jay Beattie, Dan Brown, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard along with CBS Studios, Imagine Television and UTV for bringing this international bestselling novel to life.”
Based on the 2009 novel by Brown — a prequel to The Da Vinci Code, which was turned into a blockbuster film franchise starring Tom Hanks — The Lost Symbol starred Succession alum Ashley Zukerman as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (the role Hanks played in the film series). In the series, Langdon was recruited by the CIA to crack the code on a number of deadly puzzles after his mentor goes missing. [Source]
Among the dozens of rising actors in Hollywood today Ashley Zukerman stands out in the roles he has landed and for the attention he has received. The actor’s latest work includes the Peacock series “Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol” in which Ashley plays the lead character, professor Robert Langdon. You’ve also seen him in the hugely successful Fear Street trilogy on Netflix and in Succession where he potrays Nate Sofrelli, Shiv’s on-again/off-again lover. We caught up with Ashley in New York to chat about his work, life aspiration and dreams.
Giulia: How do you stay in character and how do you shift between the roles?
Ashley: It’s different for every job. Some require more immersion than others. The material dictates that, also the conditions of the work. But it’s always about finding the differences between me and the character – and research.
Giulia: The Lost Symbol is a 2009 novel written by American writer Dan Brown and you play the professor Robert Langdon who studies symbols. How about yourself , are you a believer in symbols or signs?
Ashley: Symbols are just place holders for ideas. I don’t think you can believe in them. They just exist. If by signs you mean ‘am I a believer in omens?’ do I think ‘all things are connected and have meaning outside of that which can be explained’? I don’t know. I think my very pragmatic and logical approach to life has softened in recent years. Especially during The Lost Symbol.
Giulia: How does it feel to play the young version of Robert Langdon in The Lost Symbol portrayed by Tom Hanks in the Da Vinci Code? Did he give you any tips?
Ashley: It’s a nice feeling to play someone that so many people already have a connection to. It’s an honor to have been chosen. And I enjoyed the fact that he’s a younger version of the character. So, although still connected to everything that’s come before he’s less formed, less complete, more rough around the edges – I could push him to be more closed minded, more arrogant. [More at Source]
Huge apology about the delay everyone, I’ve finally updated the gallery with HQ stills and screencaptures of the first few episodes of The Lost Symbol, which I hope everyone is enjoying as much as I am. Ash is doing an amazing job portraying Robert Langdon and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
